Youth Protection Training

Scouting takes the safety of all youth in its programs very seriously. Strict rules are in place to serve as barriers to abuse.

To ensure the barriers to abuse are respected and a culture of safety is maintained at all times, every every adult (age 18+) who goes on a Scout overnight trip is required to take Youth Protection Training (YPT).

YPT is a 72-minute online course that is designed to meet or exceed state and federal youth protection standards.

YPT expires and must be retaken every 2 years. Proof of YPT completion within the last 2 years must be shown before entry to any Scout camp or participation in any Scout overnight.

How to take YPT

1. Login to your account on my.scouting.org

2. On the Home page, find the YPT shield logos:

3. Click the appropriate logo to take the training in English or Spanish.

4. Take (or retake) all four training modules in order. The last module is a test which you must pass to get credit for the course.

5. After completing all four modules and passing the test, it is recommended to download and save a local copy of your YPT completion certificate (PDF).
